Paleo-Geo-Morphologies

Together with Oksana Mas
Barbarian-art gellery

February 2 - March 17 2012

The forthcoming exhibition is the second show by Dmitry Kawarga at the Barbarian Art Gallery. The first one was entitled «Bio structures» and was devoted to the theme of the materialization of thought and the communication process. This time the artist bases his show on two of his projects - «Paleo-Geo-Morphology» and «Ouroboros».

Sculptures from «Paleo-Geo-Morphology» are artefacts of the human development. Convenience, the cultural «samples of a breed», has been extracted from the thicknesses of civilization. In the section of the object the viewer may see numerous compressed layers of industrial humus, amorphous and constructive form-creations, taking their start from the deep bowels of the earth.

The "Ouroboros" is an archaic image depicting a serpent eating its own tail. It represents the perpetual cyclic renewal of life, the eternal return, the death and the rebirth, leading to immortality. In the alchemical symbolism the Ouroboros depicts the material process of metamorphosis, by the heating, the boiling, the vaporizing and the condensing of a liquid substance. Hence Kawarga utilizes for his project "Ouroboros" several kinds of fragments of his early sculptures and installations. Furthermore the artist makes reference to the human evolution history and attempts to comprehend the human development through the cyclic process of its own creativity.
